Update on the nursery

I've been getting quite a few inquiries about the nursery lately, so I thought I'd give you all a sneak peak. We've purchased the crib, dresser, and bookshelf and they're all sitting in their boxes waiting for Franz to put them together- I'm just kidding, of course I'm going to help him put everything together, I'm actually looking forward to that part, it will be fun :) I've also picked up a few other random decorative items along the way as well. My new favorite website is http://www.etsy.com/ and I've been stalking it everyday searching for the perfect inspiration piece- Michael Miller's Disco Dot blanket in Sorbet. Etsy is a website similar to ebay but without the annoying auction part. People all around the world list their handmade items for sale. I would so much rather give my money to these talented individuals than a big box store- plus, you get a custom item that not everyone else has, what more could you ask for?

So here is the color palette that I've chosen for our little girl who is still unnamed by the way. And yes, I will be using the color black whether you think it's appropriate for a girls room or not.

I'd love to get started painting this weekend, so I guess I just need to settle on a paint color!!!

Welcome to Utah!

This week I went to St. George, Utah for work. There is a timeshare resort there that we did the interior design for and I needed to professionally photograph the place. It's a long drive to Utah, and normally I would just fly there. But since this was a photo shoot, I had an entire carload full of knick-knacks that I was going to use in the photo shoot. So I took my friend Judith and we headed out. One night we found ourselves at a sports bar/grill called Iggy's. For those of you who live here in California, it's very similar to BJ's Pizza. We had just ordered when I looked up and saw the advertisement for Polygamy Porter. I couldn't believe what I was seeing- here in Utah??? Then I got a little closer to the add and saw the marketing slogan "Why have just one"!!!!! We laughed so hard, it took us a moment to compose ourselves. I asked our server if that was for real or just a joke. She said for real. Of course I had to get a 6-pack for Franz, so later that evening as I filled up my tank for our drive the next day, I popped into the gas station mini-mart and grabbed one. Now just a little background information, St. George is a little town about 30 minutes outside of Hilldale, Utah. Hilldale is one of the cities where the polygamists live. In fact, there are a couple books written by two women who have left this 'community'. Escape by Carolyn Jessop and Little Girl Lost by Elissa Wall. Their stories are fascinating to me and I'm totally intriqued by the whole polygamy thing that's been in the news lately. So it's always fun for me to go to St. George because you never know what kind of things you may see. Judith and I thought about taking a little side trip to Hilldale, but I've heard they don't like visitors so we went shopping instead.

Cheers!

Sandcastle Festival

I've always wanted to go to a sandcastle festival, they've always looked so cool when I've seen them on tv. We headed up to Santa Barbara around 11ish and stopped in Ventura for lunch. By the time we got to the festival it was well underway. Each contestant had 3 hours to built their "castle" and then they were judged. These were the top 2 in our opinion. We actually have no idea who won, by then we had walked down the beach quite a ways and I became fascinated by this old guy and his son. There was a small abandoned 'shipwrecked' boat and it looked like they were taking it apart piece by piece or something. The old guy was standing knee deep in the water and was holding what appeared to be a long metal tube. He just kept dipping it in the water and then pulled it up shoulder height so the water would come out the other side. He did this for a very long time. I'm still dying to know what he was doing.

Got any spare change?

When we were in San Clemente 2 weekends ago, we decided to have dinner on the pier and watch the sunset. The only parking space we could find was up a steep hill. We got the last spot, and it was 6:15. Score! Just in time for the sunset! And the meters stop at 7:00, so we only needed 50 cents and we'd be on our way. I searched my purse for change, none. I searched my secret change compartment in the car, again nothing. I looked at Franz- now I should have already known the answer because I know Franz. He does not carry change. It all goes into the change bucket. Right at that moment we were both picturing the change bucket and how much it would have come in handy just then. So we walked down the hill, I looked for a table while Franz had to get change and run back up the hill to put money in the meter before we got a ticket.

So- how much change do you think we have in this bucket? Winner gets a quarter!

I've already made some progress with cleaning out the guest bedroom to make room for baby. This is the smallest bedroom in our house. Her nursery is 8'-6" x 9'-0", so I've got quite the task of trying to fit everything into this small space. I think I can do it.

So this morning we had our "big ultrasound". This is the one where the perinatologist spends quite a bit of time measuring the baby and looking at all of its internal organs. He even looks for club feet and cleft lips. It was pretty interesting. This was the first time Franz got to see our little one. Of course we wanted to find out what the sex was, but they leave that part until the end. They said all the measurements looked good and from what they can tell we've got a healthy baby in there. Then they waited until the baby was positioned just so, and they were able to tell us we're having a Girl!It was a very exciting day- now I can get started on decorating her nursery.
