We live in southern California. Why does Sonic advertise on the local cable channels when the nearest Sonic is in Palmdale- at least 60 miles away? It makes me so mad. No seriously, it makes me mad- just ask Franz. He's heard my rants. I've been to Sonic maybe 2 times my entire life- both when I was back east visiting my sister. Going to Sonic when I was on vacation was a super cool experience- you pull up, you order your food at your own little private speaker box, and they bring to you your food on roller skates! How fun is that? So showing commercials on tv for Sonic when the nearest one is so far away that I will never get to go is just plain mean in my opinion.
That is until today :) We were invited to a housewarming party for some friends who moved to Acton. And guess what is just 10 miles down the road? Yep, Sonic. So since we were going to be in the neighborhood, we decided we must go. We couldn't be that close to the nearest Sonic and not go.
Since neither of us is familiar with their menu, we took a few minutes to look it over and see what jumped out at us. Would it be a hot dog and tater tots? How about popcorn chicken? A strawberry limeade slushy? Franz got a chocolate shake and I got a Sonic Blast with Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. We chatted in the car and watched the other guests get their food via server on skates and waited anxiously for our turn. Here she comes with our order and she's not gliding towards us, she's WALKING. So anti-climactic.
Anyways, after all the years of seeing Sonic commercials and wondering what we were missing out on, we finally got to experience Sonic. Which leads me to the poll. Franz thought his shake was "disappointing". The ice cream in my blast had no taste. We both left feeling deflated about Sonic. We both think the absolute best to die for chocolate shakes are at Chic-Fil-A. So how about you- do you prefer Sonic or Chick-Fil-A? Or is there another to die for chocolate shake in town we're missing out on? Do tell!
really!?

Remember when the closest Sonic was in Bakersfield? The one in Acton and Palmdale are new!
I loved going to Sonic in Idaho and Kansas while visiting family. The last time I went to Sonic (in Palmdale) it wasnt that great! Maybe because they are so new they dont know what they are doing.
Never been to Chic-fil-a. I think I'll have to try it.
I am sad to say I've never been to Chick-Fil-A. I don't even know if there is one around here!
I am ALSO sad to say I HAVE been to Sonic. So, ya know those styrofoam cups they use for everything? BAD NEWS. Over the summer we stopped there for some slushies, and my two boys were sliding their straws up and down because it made this most fantastically annoying sound against the lid. What came next? Straws popping all the way through the bottom of those (cheap) styrofoam cups, causing all that slushie to come pouring out on their laps! And we were on the freeway, so there was NOTHING I could do about it!!
Unhappy boys, unhappy mom, and a pledge NEVER to go there again!
I prefer Chick-fil-A shakes over anything at Sonic. My husband really likes the cherry limeade at Sonic, but I'd much prefer the peppermint chocolate shake at Chick-fil-A. Their peach one is divine, too! What I love about them is that they have real pieces of peppermint or peaches in their shakes--yum!!! We have both places available here in CO, but Chick-fil-A is always my first pick. I was disappointed too, with Sonic that they don't come to your car with roller skates anymore. So much for the cool nostalgia.
re- those flippin cups! my CUPHOLDER somehow punctured the dang thing! however i am in love with all of the limeades! the ice cream is blah, and chic fila is far superior in the milk shake department! oh and sonic starts advertising in areas 2 years in advance of ground breaking for new sonics! so you may be getting one in your area eventually!
Sadly, I've never been to either place. I think the shakes at In-N-Out are pretty good tho'.
That's unreal! 60 minutes?!
Not to make you envious or anything ;o}~lol but around here there's practically one on every corner. There's even one in the small hick town I live in...
That's crazy!
LIMEADES!!! SONIC ICE!!! GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH!!! other than that...no big deal.
Chic-fil-a rocks (especially their sweet tea)! Gotta try the milkshakes :) Jen, I know I said January first for the chocolate milkshake, but if you wanna go sooner, I can always do strawberry :D
There is NOTHING better than a cranberry limeaid from sonic--and you can't beat Happy Hour! I love it. However, I'm not a huge fan of much else from Sonic. Now, Chick-fil-a, I LOVE their shakes (and pretty much everything else there!)
Oh, and I have to say I've only ever had a my food delivered to me on rollerskates a few tims.
Sarah
I've gotta agree with Theo-Ann, the peppermint chocolate chip shakes are Chick-fil-a are HEAVENLY!!! They are limited edition and only available during the holidays. So yummy:)

I don't think I've been to either place. But now you've got me thinking I should check it out, especially the limeade. That sounds good. Lisa
