While I'm at it...

Another thing I've been contemplating lately is window treatments.  Specifically when you buy or sell a house.  I've never understood why you would want to buy a house with the prior inhabitants window treatments.  Isn't design/decor taste subjective?  It's so personal and unique to each individual, so this trend totally baffles me.

As a seller, I've always assumed that I would take my window treatments with me, or remove them at the very least prior to moving.  So why do some real estate listings and agents proclaim, "includes all window treatments" like it's a good thing?

Just a random thought.

  1. Yeah, that I totally don't get. The chalkboard paint, I personally love the idea. But window treatments? They are such a specific taste.

  2. I think the intended purpose of the saying is for those window treatments that are designed specifically for a certain (usually odd shaped) window. Or of course this could just be a way of saying "hey, we want new curtains for our new home so we are leaving these ones behind". But certainly agree, most curtains I've seen in homes are not something that would fit my decor preferences.

  3. I agree! The people we bought our house from were equally baffled. :) I told her she could keep the curtains but she didn't. We took them down right away.

  4. I totally agree, although we still have some of the window treatments up from the previous owners after 5 months! We have a lot of rooms to paint and so we just keep the curtains up until we redo each room. But we will definitely be getting rid of all of them eventually!

  5. I kept the window treatments in our first home. Everything had been very specifically decorated and we just adapted, because we knew we wouldn't be there very long.

    Are you moving?

  6. I think it's a combination of two of the above - 1) they may be specially designed for the specific non-standard windows (just like most places with a bar include the barstools in the sale), or (most likely) 2) do you really want to move into a house, in the summer, on a busy street, and have all your windows completely bare with no protection from sun or the creepy guy who keeps peering in from the sidewalk until you get around to coming up with curtains yourself?

(Of course, there's always 3) our house came with some pretty cool ones, with curtain rods that look like jousting spears, and we were thrilled to have them!)
