Our humble little ranch abode was literally being overtaken by an ash tree. I'm not sure what genius planted the tree, how long ago it was planted, or why they planted it so close to the house. But I did know it had to go. In hindsight, we should have had it removed a long time ago.
Two guys:
 |
| This tree was huge- the stump dwarfed the two workers. |
Seven days of near constant chain-sawing, jack-hammering, sledge-hammering and digging.
 |
| Making progress. |
And it's finally gone.
 |
| You would never know a tree dominated this space just one week ago. |
The lead guy said that this tree was still very young. I can only imagine how much bigger it could have gotten had we let it. It did provide us with some great shade in the backyard, and we can already feel the difference without it. But removing it was the right thing to do.
It's always sad to see a tree being taken down but I know it was way too close to the house... You get a prize for putting up with all that noise for 7 days!

ReplyDeletetrees are wonderful - but should be planted in the right spot! any plans to plant one in that tiny back yard of yours? ;) (mayyyybe once you move somewhere else i'll stop dreaming of what it can be!) ;)
Wow, I can't believe there was such an enormous tree there! Good move! :o)
ReplyDeleteMelissa was concerned that it might be her "favorite" tree, one that bore pinecones that smelled so good. She is relieved.
